St. Louis, Mo. (KSDK) - An early morning house firein South St. Louis City killed one person and left two others critically injured. Police and fire crews were called to the home in the 3500 block of Giles just before 4 a.m. Saturday morning.

Captain Dan Sutter with the St. Louis Fire Department says the one alarm blaze broke out in the first floor of a two-family brick flat home. The structure was showing heavy fire and smoke when firefighters arrived. Once inside, they found the body of 41-year-old David Banks.

The fire quickly spread to the second floor, but firefighters were able to contain the flames.

Captain Sutter says two other adults were transported to an area hospital with critical injuries sustained in the fire.

There's no word on what caused the blaze or the extent of the damage and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
