(@KSDK Sports) -- The St. Louis Billkens look to get back to a plus .500 record with a much needed win tonight against the undefeated Salukies of Southern Illinois.
The Billikens are coming off the CBE Hall of Fame Classic, where they played Texas A&M and Kansas at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo. SLU faced No. 12 Kansas in the championship game on Tuesday, falling 73-59, but showed its heart, rallying from an 18-point second-half deficit to pull within nine points of the lead late, but were unable to get any closer.
Keep an eye on forwards Cody Ellis, Dwayne Evans and Cory Remekun. Ellis led the Billikens with 19 points against the Jayhawks. He hit four 3-pointers, including three in the second half that sparked SLU's comeback.
Evans matched his career high with 21 points, and senior forward Cory Remekun was one shy of his career best with 12 points as the Billikens posted a 70-49 win against the Aggies. Evans leads the Billikens with 14.8 ppg and 7.8 rpg. Ellis also scores in double figures with 13.8 ppg. He also collects 5.8 rpg and is the team's top free-throw shooter with an 87.5 percent (21-24) mark.
Remekun turned in two serviceable outings in Kansas City, his first two appearances of the year after missing the first two games with a knee injury. Remekun scored 12 points against Texas A&M and posted 10 vs. Kansas. He also recorded two blocks in both games.
Junior guard Mike McCall Jr. played 39 minutes against Kansas, a career high. Senior guard Kwamain Mitchell remains out with a foot injury, and an injured Jordair Jett missed most of the second half against Kansas. McCall Jr. (11.5 ppg) and Remekun (11.0 ppg) also score in double figures for the Billikens. As a team, SLU shoots 43.1 percent (88-204) from the floor, 33.3 percent (24-72) from 3-point range and 77 percent (67-87) from the line.
SIU enters Saturday's game 3-0 after picking up road wins at New Orleans (72-55) and SIUE (71-55). The Salukis also topped Benedictine-Springfield 100-62 at SIU Arena. In their last outing, Southern Illinois topped SIUE 71-55 at SIUE's Vadalabene Center. The Salukis put four players in double figures, let by Jeff Early's 16 points.
Guard Jeff Early leads the Salukis with 20.7 ppg. He has shot a sizzling 67.6 percent (25-37) from the field early on. Anthony Beane Jr. follows with 12 ppg, while Desmar Jackson scores 11 ppg.
As a team, SIU shoots 55.2 percent (95-172) from the floor, 33.3 percent (11-33) from 3-point range and 71.2 percent (42-59 from the line.
