Lawrenceville, NJ (Sports Network) - Maurice Barrow tallied a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds to help the Fairfield Stags pull away in the second half to defeat the Rider Broncs, 65-52, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at Alumni Gymnasium.
Colin Nickerson also scored 13 points for Fairfield (5-5, 1-1 MAAC), which has won two of three. Derek Needham added 12 points, four assists, and three steals.
For Rider (6-5, 1-1), Jonathon Thompson and Zedric Sadler each netted 10 points. Dera Nd-Ezuma chipped in eight points, eight rebounds, and three blocks for the Broncs, who had won four of their previous five.
Rider got out to a 33-29 halftime lead. Although it shot a modest 40.7 percent from the floor in the first half, it made 10-of-14 from the free throw line. Fairfield missed all three of its free throw attempts in the opening 20 minutes.
After the Broncs opened the second half with Daniel Stewart making 1-of-2 from the line, the Stags ripped off a 16-0 run to take a 45-34 advantage with 14:37 left to play, and they held on to the lead for the rest of the game.
Both teams took poor care of the basketball, with Fairfield committing 23 turnovers and Rider coughing it up an astounding 31 times.
