(CNN) - President Barack Obama has schools and streets named after him, but this latest honor requires an imagination.

Yale and Harvard scientists have named a newly identified extinct lizard after President Obama.

The name: Obamadon gracilis. In Latin, odon means "tooth" and gracilis means "slender."

The scientists say the lizard had tall, slender teeth, was less than a foot long and probably ate insects. They added that they were just having fun in coming up with the name, and that there is no politics behind it.

Researchers say the lizard died when dinosaurs did.

In fact, they said as many as 83 percent of all living snake and lizard species back then became extinct after an asteroid hit the Earth 65 million years ago.
