SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KXTC/CNN) - A California renter finds mold and mushrooms growing from the carpet in her Sacramento apartment.

Natalie Wise says she's reported the problem to the management at the Diablo Riviera complex. She says they've cleaned and replaced the carpet several times, yet the mold and mushrooms grow back.

Now she says she's worried about the health of her son and says she can't afford to move.

"I don't feel like it's safe to be here, but I don't really have anywhere else to go. My son had to stay home from school today and in contact with his doctor by e-mail, but we are not sure how to figure out what is wrong," said Wise.

The owner of the Diablo Riviera Apartments did not return calls for comment on the condition of Wise's apartment.

Officials encourage residents to report dangerous conditions to county investigators.
