St.Louis (KSDK)-- A south St. Louis church is burglarized twice in the same week.

Members showed up at St. Johns Lutheran Church on Morganford Saturday morning and found the church vandalized.

A burglar broke out windows and a door and stole the church's original Bible. The rare Augsburg Bible has a carved wooden cover and dates back to the 1800's.

This is the second break-in this week. Last Sunday someone broke into the church stealing food and vandalizing Christmas gifts for the homeless.

"I dont' know if we're getting used to it, but we're trying everything to stop it, " said church elder Craig Goebel.

Surveillance cameras captured what appears to be the same man in both instances. Church leaders are turning the most recent video over to police.

This is the 5th time the church has been broken into in recent months. Last year when vandals hit, members took shifts keeping a watch on the church and its belongings. Now they are taking all the valuables home at night.
