SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - The Missouri Department of Transportation is preparing for snow across southern parts of the state on Christmas Day.
The National Weather Service on Monday issued a winter storm warning for south-central and southwestern counties near the Arkansas border. Forecasters expect snow to begin falling sometime Tuesday afternoon, with accumulations of up to 8 inches possible before the weather clears on Wednesday.
Forecasters also say blizzard conditions are possible starting Tuesday evening in southeastern Missouri. The likely snowfall in that region is uncertain, but winds gusting up to 45 mph could create whiteout conditions with just a few inches of snow on the ground.
The outlook is less certain for central Missouri, but snow is possible there as well.
Transportation crews were preparing Monday to pre-treat roads ahead of the storm.
