ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - Wednesday was day two on the job for new Police Chief Sam Dotson, and he's doing a long list of interviews with the media.

Chief Dotson takes over as the city prepares to regain control of the department from the state for the first time since the Civil War. He says he looks at his appointment as an opportunity to reinvent the city police department and plans to focus on improving communication with officers and the community, making citizens feel safe and fighting crime.
In fact, he says we should all expect a seamless and transparent transition with things like hot spot policing becoming a permanent part of his crime-fighting approach.
One big change you can expect: Chief Dotson plans to cut the number of police districts in the city. This is part of his effort at finding redundancies and efficiencies in the budget, including major changes to the number of police districts the department operates.
