Today, if you're young and looking for a different kind of late-night show, you have a bunch of options: Stewart/Colbert, Fallon, Kimmel, Handler, on and on.
But in the early '90s, there was really only one "alternative" program that aired after the news: The Arsenio Hall Show. I watched often and appreciated the fact that Hall booked fresh and interesting guests ... even if I wasn't particularly fond of the boisterous Dog Pound.
Hall has enjoyed a bit of a resurgence lately, bolstered by a winning appearance on Celebrity Apprentice. (I also appreciated his small part in 2009's cult fave Black Dynamite.) Later this year, he'll revive The Arsenio Hall Show and face much more competition.
Here's a quick teaser:
And here's some behind-the-scenes footage. How is it possible Arsenio looks better than ever? (He's 56, FYI.)
Though I'm curious about the return, I can't help but think a daytime show might have worked better for the host. Your thoughts?
The Arsenio Hall Show debuts Sept. 9.
