PASADENA, Calif. (AP) - Fox says it hasn't made any changes to the content of its upcoming drama "The Following" since the Connecticut school shooting, but some ads for the show were softened immediately afterward.
The drama features Kevin Bacon chasing a grisly killer who recruits murderous disciples, and it debuts Jan. 21.
The Kevin Williamson-created series opens by showing the bloody aftermath of knifed prison guards, and a woman later commits suicide by gouging her eye and piercing her skull with an ice pick.
Fox entertainment chief Kevin Reilly said Tuesday that linking the issue of violence in society to broadcast television trivializes the issue.
Reilly said the promotion of the series wasn't affected, but spokesman Joe Earley said later that electronic billboards depicting the woman with an ice pick were changed to pictures of Bacon.
