Kent, OH (Sports Network) - Rian Pearson went off for 27 points for the Toledo Rockets as they defeated the Kent State Golden Flashes, 70-58, in some Mid- American Conference action at the MAC Center.
Pearson was 10-of-19 from the field and grabbed nine rebounds for the Rockets (5-7, 1-0 MAC), who have won three of their last four games. Dominique Buckley scored 15 points while Nathan Boothe added 10 points and seven rebounds. While Julius Brown struggled from the field, going 2-of-13 for seven points, he dished out a game-high 10 assists and pulled down six boards.
Chris Evans finished with 20 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks for the Golden Flashes (9-6, 0-1), who saw their four-game winning streak come to a close. Randal Holt and Bryson Pope scored 10 points each. Pope also contributed eight rebounds and three steals.
Toledo took a 28-25 lead into the break despite shooting 34.4 percent from the floor. The Golden Flashes were unable to take advantage of the hosts poor shooting as they committed 11 first turnovers before the break.
The Rockets shot 56.0 percent from the field in the second half to outscore Kent State, 42-33.
Kent State shot just 32.1 percent from the field throughout the game and made good on just 3-of-19 three-point attempts.
