ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KSDK) - The Riverview Gardens Administrative Board has announced their decision for the district's new superintendent.

Scott D. Spurgeon, Ed.D., will begin his position July 1, at the start of the 2013-2014 school year.

Dr. Spurgeon has over 18 years of experience, serving in the Belleville Township High School District, Rockwood School District, and the Northwest R-1 School District, as well as being the Independent Educational Consultant for the International Center for Leadership in Education.

He says his number one priority is to bring accreditation back to the district, and his goal is to improve the performance of students.

Special Administrative Board Chair Dr. Lynn Beckwith, Jr., says Dr. Spurgeon was offered a competitive contract with a base salary of $170,000per year for three years.

He was one of two finalists and Beckwith believes Dr. Spurgeon will meet the expectations of the Board and community.
