ST. LOUIS (AP) - St. Louis' incumbent mayor has received a big endorsement in his bid for re-election - the backing of Gov. Jay Nixon.

Nixon on Friday endorsed Francis Slay, a fellow Democrat who is seeking a fourth term. Slay is opposed in the March primary by aldermanic president Lewis Reed and the Rev. Jimmie Matthews. The general election is in April.

Nixon cited what he called Slay's "tireless commitment to the city and its people."
