KIRKWOOD, Mo. (KSDK) - On Friday, NewsChannel 5 learned that a new gym in downtown Kirkwood suddenly shut down, and some members are wondering what happened.

It was a surprise to many Peak Physique gym members who were hoping to work out but instead were left out in the cold.

Ken Fox says he was shocked to find out the gym was "closed indefinitely."

"I had no indication whatsoever that it was going to close," he said.

The gym on S. Kirkwood Road had its grand opening just a little over a year ago with fanfare from the lieutenant governor and two state lawmakers, but on Tuesday the gym suddenly shut its doors.

"There were people working out one night, you know I work right here so I see it all day, they closed like normal and then the next day they just closed the gym there was no warning. No anything," said Christine Dee, who owns a handmade jewelry store across the street from Peak Physique.

Christine's 21-year-old son was a member there.

"He loved going there. He would go three to five times a week. He's very sad that it's gone so very suddenly," said Dee.

NewsChannel5 contacted one of the owners who said he had to close the gym because of "irreconcilable differences with the landlord."

He says all customers will be refunded.

Fox says he hopes he gets refunded because he paid for a year membership upfront.

The owner says the gym is relocating but, wouldn't say where.
