(KSDK) St. Louis, Mo. -- Mardi Gras 2013 was a party for everyone: locals, out of towners, first-timers, old-timers, and everyone in the middle. And it didn't disappoint.

Cassandra Freeman moved to St. Louis from Los Angeles two years ago. This was her first Soulard Mardi Gras.

"This is amazing," she says. "This is like so crazy."

She was one of the thousands of people who turned out for the party of the year.

The highlights varied from person to person, but most involved drinking and beads.

Families gathered near the front of the parade route to keep away from the drunken crowds further into Soulard.

Scott Mulvaney of St. Louis brought his daughters.

"They like to get the beads. They like to catch them in their nets so we come down every year."

He says they make sure to sit near other families. After the parade, he says his daughters collect the beads.

"We have boxes full at home."

This year's theme was Carnival Comics.

As much fun as Mardi Gras can be, one man told us he'd like to see moreportable toiletsbecause the lines were too long.
