(CNN) - Chilling letters written by the man who killed former Beetle John Lennon are for sale online.

Mark David Chapman wrote the letters to the New York City Police officer who arrested him.

In them, Chapman makes several references to the book "The Catcher in the Rye." He also mentions feeling a connection with Officer Stephen Spiro and he calls Lennon "a phony of highest degree."

Spiro is selling all four letters for $75,000. He says he plans to donate some of the money to a battered women's shelter.

Chapman is serving a sentence of 20 years to life.
