ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - NewsChannel 5, in partnership with Ready Readers, is hoping to collect 10,000 new or gently used books for preschoolers.

The organization, with help from volunteers, is dedicated to getting low-income preschool children to become readers.

One local couple has donated 1,000 books so far and has promised to bring 1,000 more Tuesday.

Ready Readers says it's crucial that a child learn to start reading as soon as possible.

"Language is absolutely important for children from the ages of zero, day one, to age five. It's important to talk with your children. It's important to read to your children," said Lisa Greening, Executive Director of Ready Readers.
