(KSL) - A man is dead after the dump truck he was driving Tuesday swerved off the side of a bridge, landing upside down on the street below.

Around 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, a 40-year-old man driving a Sunroc dump truck loaded with gravel was headed northbound on a bridge crossing railroad tracks in Provo.

Joseph Morgan was on his way to a job interview when he saw a dump truck, with a full load of gravel, lose control.

"I was coming up over the hill, the semi swerves in front of me so I slowed down as he passed me. I looked back to see if he was going to be okay once he hit the railing, but he kept going," said witness Joseph Morgan.

According to police, the truck swerved across traffic onto the bridge's barrier, without braking.

It slid for approximately 20 feet on the railing before falling off the bridge and flipping onto its roof on the street below.

An officer who witnessed the crash offered assistance on scene to the driver.

The man was taken by paramedics to a nearby hospital, where he later died, and his name has not been released.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash and why the driver made no apparent attempt to stop or correct the truck.
