WENTZVILLE, Mo. (KSDK) - If you live in Wentzville and you get snow, the Wentzville Fire Protection District is offering to remove it for free. You just have to live in one of the six towns the department serves.

The department's community outreach program has, in the past, raised money for breast cancer research, sponsored a youth baseball team, and even helped a sick teen get a prosthesis. Now they're clearing people's driveways, simply because it's a nice thing to do.

"It's guys donating their time away from their jobs away from their families to help out others," said firefighter Mike Czerniewski.

They cleared 14 driveways after the storm and are hoping to get the word out so they can help even more during future storms.

Wentzville resident Shirley Weinzerl called the firefighters literal life savers. Her elderly husband has had three open heart surgeries and was planning on clearing their driveway himself. Firefighters happened to be clearing their neighbor's driveway when they offered to clear the Weinzerl's as well.
