ST. CHARLES, Mo. (KSDK) - An email to NewsChannel 5 signed by the "Castle Rock Board of Directors" said the academy with a closed sign on the door won't reopen.
NewsChannel 5 asked the writer of the email to tell us who the board of directors is. They never answered us. We then asked them to sit down and talk to us. They refused.
Parents like Tracey O'Leary-Benack tell NewsChannel 5 they got the call to go pick up their children on Wednesday afternoon. O'Leary-Benack said a state supervisor told her the academy was operating as an unlicensed daycare. Parents said the owners told them Castle Rock was a Montessori school.
NewsChannel 5 obtained several documents from the state that show, over three months, the Department of Health and Senior Services asked Castle Rock owners to prove they were operating as a school. They never did. The state would only say it is investigating the academy.
NewsChannel 5 has learned nobody regulates Montessori schools. Parents need to ask schools for their credentials. You can check the American Montessori Society and the Association of Montessori International websites to see if your school is credentialed. They are the biggest, but not the only credentialing agencies.
Castle Rock parents said they are out of the money they paid the owners of Castle Rock for this week. The Missouri Attorney General said parents can file a complaint on their consumer complaint website or call them at 1-800-392-8222.
