KSDK- St. Louis Police officers turned to retail duty Saturday to try to stop car thefts. The Sixth, Seventh and Eighth Districts of the Metropolitan Police Department, City of St. Louis sold Car Clubs at the Phillips Gas Station located on the corner of Union and Natural Bridge.

The clubs, which normally sell for around $40 retail, were sold for just $13.

The officers say auto theft is often a crime of opportunity for thieves. They will look for vehicles that appear to be an easy target. The club locks to the vehicle's steering column. That means you can't steer the vehicle without removing the device.

To purchase a "club" for your vehicle, you can contact the City of St. Louis Neighborhood Stabilization Group at 314-657-1392.
