CENTRALIA, Ill. (KSDK) - The Centralia High Orphans is the winner of the USA TODAY's Most Unique Mascot Contest.

USA TODAY presented the school with a banner and a check for $2,000.

The Centralia Orphans received more than 25-million votes.

The Orphans first got in the contest when USA Today pickedfive high schools out of each state including Washington DC . Each state had their runoffs and the Centralia Orphans won the Illinois State round with 679,004 votes.

The Orphans then defeatedMinnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa and Indiana in the regional round.

The Orphans then went against the winners ofthe other five regions andreceived25,392,806 votes.
