ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - One person was shot and killedby police near the Edward Jones Dome Wednesday night.

The shooting happened around 9:40 p.m. at 8th and Carr, about one block north of the Dome, which is a hot spot policing area.

Police say they were patrolling the area when they noticed a vehicle that appeared to be avoiding them. The car was able to get away from the officer.

Moments later the car with two men inside was spotted by two different officers.

Officers followed the car that sped up and crashed.

The passenger of the car, identified as a 25-year-old male, jumped out of the car and started running from police.

Two officers started the chase on foot. Police say as the man was running,he pulled out a .45 caliber pistol with extended clips and pointed it at pursuing officers.

Officers responded by drawing their weapons and fired at the man.

The suspect was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the car stayed inside the vehicle and was taken into custody.

No police officers were injured in the shooting. The two officers who fired at the 25 year old man have been placed on administrative leave.
