ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - St. Louisans now have a chance to go to the moon without leaving the city.

The new Moon Room event space opened on the rooftop of the Moonrise Hotel Thursday night.

Owner Joe Edwards wore a space suit to the grand opening. Forget about a typical ribbon cutting. He pulled apart the Velcro which held the ribbon together.

Velcro is a now common product that was popularized after being used as a fastener by NASA on
space suits and other astronaut gear.

The roof of the moon room is made entirely of solar panels which powers the event space.
