ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - A 2-year-old boy has died of injuries sustained in a south St. Louis home, and an adult found at the home is in police custody.
According to Leah Freeman, a spokesman in the St. Louis Circuit Attorney's Office, child abuse and homicide detectives were called to thehome in the 7000 block of Weil in the Lindenwood Park neighborhood around 5:15 p.m. Thursday.
Officers were called to the home by an uncle of thevictim,who told police he found the toddler unconscious and having problems beathing.The boy, identified as Isiah Barber,was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Isiah's father, identified as Zachary Barber,toldofficers he had struck the child, and investigators noted bruising on the little boy before he was taken to the hospital. No explanation was provided on why the man struck the child in the chest.
Two other children living at the home, including the victim's two-year-old twin and a four-year-old boy were removed and taken into protective custody.
An autopsy revealed the boy died of injuries sustained by being struck in the chest.
Zachary Barber was charged with first-degree involuntary manslaughter and jailed on a $100,000 cash-only bond.
