WENTZVILLE, Mo. (KSDK) - Wentzville is the fastest growing city in the state of Missouri.

Over the past 20 years, it has seen a population increase of 322-percent. In 1990, it was a small town of 5,000 people. Thanks to housing and bsuiness developments, the population has grown to nearly 30,000.

Mayor Nick Guccioni said the growthposes a challenge for first responders. Firefighters need to still be able to respond to situations in a timely fashion to save lives and property even though they may be covering a larger area. Mayor Guccioni said that is why they need more firehouses.

The school district is one of the fastest growing in the state, so more school buildings are needed.

Construction is almost complete on Liberty High School, the district's third high school.

District officials said over the past decade, an average of 650 new students per year have enrolled in the district.

Despite all the commercial growth, a restaurant that is famous for bisucits and gravy have kept its tradition.

Pete's Drive-In has been owned by Elmer Luetkenhaus, also known as Pete, for 47 years when it was originally an old A&W Drive-In. The business is such a landmark, last year, the city re-named one of the streets in town named after Pete.
