EUREKA, Mo. (KSDK) - A man wanted in several states was involved in a shootout with officers Friday afternoon in Eureka. Mo.

Illinois State Police say the incident started when the 49-year-old man was spotted in Litchfield, Ill. We're still waiting for details on what happened there, but we're told he was spotted several hours later on Interstate 44 near Pacific, Mo.

Missouri State Highway Patrol officers attempted to stop the unidentified man, but he did not stop.

Officers deployed spike strips, causing the tires on the vehicle the man was driving to deflate.

The suspect then drove into a nearby neighborhood.

Police say the man started waving a gun around on Williams Road, so officers fired several shots at him in response.

The man was taken into custody and transported to an area hospital. His injuries have not been disclosed, and his condition is unknown.

No one else was injured.

The man's last known address was in Kentucky. Police have not said why he was wanted.

Officers from several agencies are conducting accident reconstruction and collecting evidence.

All schools in Eureka were put on a brief lockdown, but it was lifted by 1:30 p.m.
