JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KSDK) - Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster filed a lawsuit Thursday against a California man and his construction company for allegedly scamming Joplin tornado victims.

The suit was filed against Clark Baxter and his company, Sustainable Design, Inc., and states Baxter took tens of thousands of dollars from Joplin residents and failed to deliver construction materials and stopped work on the homes before completion.

"Unfortunately, there are always those who will take advantage of unsuspecting consumers during times of tragedy," Koster said, "This office will continue to protect consumers by pursuing those who engage in this illegal behavior.

Five other contractors have been subjected to legal action by Koster for illegal behavior related to the rebuilding of Joplin homes.
