ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. (KSDK) - A man wanted for attacking a woman in a home invasion was arrested Thursday following a standoff with authorities.
According to the Swansea Police Department, the home invasion took place between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. in the 100 block of Lake Shore Drive.
The suspect allegedly went into the residence and attacked a woman whom he knew. The victim was taken to a local hospital where she was treated for her injuries and released.
Police said the man, identified as Dougford G. Butler III of Swansea, Ill., fled to a home near the intersection of Brackett and N. 2nd streets, where he engaged in a standoff with authorities from the Belleville and Swansea police departments, as well as the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department.
Butler is charged with one count of home invasion. He is held on a $500,000 bond.
A second person taken into custody at the scene was interviewed by police and released.
