St. Louis (KSDK) -- One went missing when she was 16 years old, the other, a boy, was nine. Now, their two mothers share an unfortunate bond, and so they banded together Saturday in search of their children and in an effort to teachparents about protecting their kids.

"I feel like I missed out on so much but just being able to see other people's children enjoying where he walked and where he played, it's amazing," explained Theda Wilson Thomas.

Her son, Christian Ferguson, was nine years old when he waslast seen nearly a decade ago. His father told police his vehicle was carjacked with the child still inside.

"I just don't want to see another parent go through what I go through," Thomas went on to say.

But it is also what Paula Cosey goes through. Her 16-year-old, Shemika, was staying at her cousin's house in December 2008, when she disappeared.

"I don't know if she walked out on her own or if she was snatched out the house or just don't know," she said.

But there was the rescue of three missing Ohio women on May 6ththat brought new hope for the two Missouri mothers.

"I bust out crying like I had found my child," recalled Cosey.

"It gives me hope that I can get closure like that," Thomas said.

So, Saturday morning they stood at Natural Bridge and Goodfellow giving out flyers hoping someone can help find their kids.

Then, the afternoon was spent at Christian's old school, Stix Early Childhood Center, for a family fun fair and an awareness program.

"There's a spot for them to put their finger prints from their thumb all the way over to their pinky for both hands," Thomas said as she showed off the child I.D. cards thatparents were encouraged to fill out. "A finger print strip and a DNA sample, like your hair or tooth, and a picture would go right here."

"You never know, 20, 30 years later, they might come, so never give up," Cosey added.

Christian's mother has started Looking for an Angel, Inc., which increases awareness of and raises monetary rewards for missing persons. For more information, visit http://www.lookingforanangel.org/
