BONNE TERRE, Mo (KSDK) - Two firefighters were injured early Thursday after falling through a floor of a burning residence in Bonne Terre.
The three-alarm fire heavily damaged the century old home on Church Street before 2:00 a.m. Thursdaywith dozens of firefighters from at least 15 different fire departments assisting in the efforts to douse the fire.
Fire officials tell NewsChannel-5 that while three firefighters were trying to contain a portion of the fire on the main level of the huge two story structure, the floor gave way, sending the firefighters into the basement of the home.
Two of those firefighters were taken to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment. The third firefighter was not hurt, despite falling through the floor.
The man living in the home was able to escape the fire without harm. Damage is extensive.
Fire investigators have not establish a definite cause of the fire, but say it appears to have started in the basement, moving into the walls, then up into the attic of the home.
No names have been released. The injuries to the firefighters are not believe to be life threatening.
