A trooper with the Missouri State Highway Patrol was trying to pull over a speeding car on eastbound Highway 21 over the river when the suspect slowed to stop.

Investigators say as the trooper was approaching the vehicle, the driver dove into the Meramec through a passenger window of his car around 1:30 a.m.

Eastbound traffic on Highway 21 at Highway 141 was temporarilyblocked by emergency vehicles as authorities search for the man by ground and air.

Crews had to temporarily suspend the search for the driver because of storms that moved through the St. Louis-area Wednesday morning.
