(KSDK Sports) -- John Burroughs head football coach Gus Frerotte is heading back home to Pittsburgh. Frerotte and family are moving to where he and his wife grew up. John Merritt will take over the John Burroughs School football program. Merritt is the former offensive coordinator of Washington University.
The decision to move east was made easier with Frerotte's daughter deciding to attend college in Philadelphia. The family will be four hours away and closer to family. Frerotte says he'll take the next year to help his boys Gunnar 15, a sophomore and Gabe, 14, a freshman, with their high school football teams.
He says, eventually he wants to return to work, perhaps coaching at the college level or even in the NFL.
Frerotte played college football at the University of Tulsa. He was drafted by the Washington Redskins in the seventh round of the 1994 NFL draft. He also played with the Detroit Lions, Denver Broncos, Cincinnati Bengals, Minnesota Vikings, Miami Dolphins and St. Louis Rams.
In his career, Frerotte threw 114 touchdowns and 106 interceptions. He had 21,291 yards in his career with a 74.2 passer rating.
After his NFL career, Frerotte took over as the head coach of John Burroughs' football team. Frerotte lead the team to runner up finishes in the state championship games during the 2011 and 2012 seasons.
