ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - Meg Herndon, a nursing student and star soccer athlete at Southeast Missouri State University, was involved in a collision on September 9, 2012 while driving her scooter to work in Cape Girardeau.

Herndon was taken to a local hospital and then airlifted to Barnes-Jewish Hospital where she died 12 days later.

To honor Meg, her family sold Cardinals tickets to help raise money to start an endowed scholarship at Southeast Missouri State University. The family chose the July 23 game in what would have been Meg's birthday. They sold more than a thousand tickets to the game.

At the first out in the top of the fifth inning, all one thousand fans held up small signs that read, "Impossible is nothing," the motto Meg Herndon lived by.
