(KSDK Sports) -- Cardinals top prospect, Oscar Taveras will have season ending surgery, ending any speculation that he will appear in a Cardinals uniform sometime this season. This information was first reported by Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com.
According to reports out of Memphis, Taveras has been listed day-to-day with a high ankle sprain suffered back May. Taveras has played in just one game since June 23because he was trying to rehab the injury and avoid surgery.
Taverashit .310/.348/.471 with five home runs and five stolen bases for AAA Memphis. Lastseason he hit .321/.380/.572 with 23 homers and 10 steals in 124 gamesfor Double-A Springfield after skipping over High Class-A completely.
Langosch reports Taveras will be back in time for Spring Training next season.
