ST. LOUIS (KSDK) -St. Louis Cardinals broadcaster Mike Shannon underwent heart surgery this week.

Doctors replaced the 74-year-old's aortic valve. The surgery was planned, and a full recovery is expected.

"I would like to thank everyone for their prayers, heartfelt well-wishes and kind words. It means a lot to me," Mike Shannon said, "I'm looking forward to getting back in the booth and back to the game I love."

Al Hrabosky, Rick Horton, and Mike Claiborne will fill in for Shannon until his return Sept. 23.
