WASHINGTON D.C. (KSDK) - St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay traveled along with 18mayors from across the country to meet at the White House Tuesday.
Mayor Slay and othersmet with President Obama, Attorney General Eric Holderto discuss strategies in reducing youth violence. President Obama lauded the efforts of the mayors' and sought input on methods that have proven successful.
Mayor Slay has been outspoken on the topic of gun violence and has been working with other officials to establish a gun court in the area. "We have an extraordinary opportunity to reduce gun violence in this city,"Mayor Slay wrote in a blog post late last month. "But we need to work together, and we need to get started right away."
The judges of St. Louis' Circuit Court are expected to vote on the gun court proposal Sept. 16.
President Obama pledged to do everything in his power to continue fighting gun violence throughout this country during the meeting.
