ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KSDK) - A third person has died from injuries sustained in a south St. Louis County fire this week.

Eleven-year-old Maci Gapsch died shortly before 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Her great-grandmother, 79-year-old Georgette Gapsch, died earlier in the day.

Maci's father, 38-year-old Terry Gapsch, was pronounced dead after he was transported to an area hospital Tuesday morning.

Authorities say 13-year-old Mia Gapsch, Maci's sister and Terry's daughter, escaped the fire around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday and ran to a neighbor's home for help. She told the neighbors three other family members were still inside her home in the 10000 block of St. Simon Court.

Police arrived first at the scene, but could not enter the home due to heavy smoke. Firefighters arrived shortly thereafter and pulled Maci, Terry, and Georgette out.

Family says Terry ran back inside the house to rescue one of his daughters and fell through the staircase.

The fire is believed to have started in the basement. The St. Louis County Police Arson & Explosives Unit is investigating.
