San Martin, CA (Sports Network) - Akemi Nakata Khaiat shot 3-over-par 75 on Sunday to earn individual stroke-play medalist honors at the USGA Senior Women's Amateur Championship.
Khaiat, the first-round leader, finished 36 holes at CordeValle Golf Club at 3-over 147, one stroke clear of Mina Hardin, who carded a 2-over 74 on Sunday and claimed second place at 4-over 148.
Martha Leach (71) and Lynne Cowan (73) shared third at 6-over, while Helene Maxe (77) and Sherry Herman (78) tied for fifth at 7-over 151.
Defending champion Ellen Port cruised into Monday's round of 64 match play portion of the event, ending 36 holes at 12-over with rounds of 80 and 76.
Japan's Khaiat overcame a double-bogey 6 at the first and five bogeys during Sunday's round, notching four birdies to claim medalist honors.
