ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - Some kids battling cancer got a much need break at the St. Louis Cardinals game Monday night.

Pitcher Jason Motte and his wife Caitlin are behind the effort. The Mottes organized Strikeout Childhood Cancer night at the ballpark after losing a young friend to the disease.

"We have become friends with a boy who passed away in July. His name was Brandt Ballenger, and a boy from Kentucky, Lane Goodwin, and they both kind of asked, 'When is there a child cancer awareness night in any sport?" said Caitlin.

The Cardinals also donated a portion ofMonday night'sproceeds to childhood cancer research.
