ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - If congressional leaders can't pass a bill to fund the government by Monday night, a government shutdown could begin Tuesday.

And one of the first effects of that shutdown locally? The closure of the Gateway Arch.

On Friday, the Interior Department announced that all national parks and federal wildlife refuges would be closed for the duration of the shutdown.

There have been 17 shutdowns since 1977. Most last no more than three days, and some last less than a day.
