In what sounds like a very ugly incident on what should otherwise have been a beautiful night for Pirates fans, Dallas Latos - wife of Reds starter Mat Latos - was attacked by a Pittsburgh fan while watching the game at PNC Park.
Latos shared her story on Twitter:
Yikes. Overeager and liquored up fans can say plenty of awful things, but there's no excuse for incidents like the one Latos described. Obviously. Resorting to a physical violence because of a baseball game is so incredibly stupid it's not even really worth discussing.
During the 2010 playoffs, Cliff Lee's wife Kirsten told USA TODAY Sports that she was harassed, taunted and spit on while sitting in the visiting families section at Yankee Stadium. That alone should probably have been enough for stadium security everywhere to realize opposing players' families might need extra protection from drunken idiots at baseball games.
