ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - The government shutdown isn't stopping local World War II and Korean War veterans from visiting war memorials in Washington D.C.

A group of 15 veterans from Aberdeen Heights Senior Living in Kirkwood left for the nation's capital Tuesday morning. They are the largest group of veterans from one location to go on the St. Louis honor flight.

Although the memorials are technically closed, the National Park Service says honor flight members will not be stopped from entering. Sen. Roy Blunt plans to meet them in Washington D.C. to make sure that they have access.

Another group of local World War II veterans made in the Washington D.C. last week, and were able to see the memorial - many said they were thrilled to make it.
