ST. LOUIS(KSDK) -The Healthcare Marketplacebeen open for 18 days, but users say they're still having trouble enrolling.Healthcare.gov has been experiencing major issues since it launched. But some local healthcare providers are stepping up to help.
"I can't create a new password, they can't recall my password, I can't login, they don't accept my username..." said Martin Gallow, listing just some of the issues he's had with his insurance application.
Gallowwill be without insurance by the end of the year. So as soon as he was able to create a profileon Healthcare.gov,he did. But now, his profile isn't working.
"That is frustrating to be told on one end, you must sign up, and you will be fined if you don't sign up, then you can't sign up. And that's just silly, really," said Gallow.
His story isbecoming all too familiar. He's just one of many who havebeen ready and willing to sign up. But instead, they spent weeks wasting their time fighting the system.
So to help make sure people are spending their time wisely, some St. Louis healthcare providers are offering assistance.
"Some may feel more comfortable with a one-on-one instead of over the phone. Sometime phone lines get disconnected," said Karen White of SSM Health Care.
White is just one of dozens of staff members at SSM who have been certified in helping people through the enrollment process. White says in addition tothe face-to-face assistance, certified counselors will be able tell right away whether a problem is user error or a technical issue.
"If the system is going to just pause, then we're going to know it's a system glitch," said White.
As for Gallow, he has a background in engineering andIT, so he's confident he can do it himself. He says he just needsthe websiteto work before his December deadline.
"I will not pay a fine because I can't log in," said Gallow.
