ST. CHARLES, Mo. (KSDK) -- A man has died and his passenger was hospitalizedaftertheir vehicle slammed through the front door of an urgent care building Sunday afternoon.
The man who died is from St. Charles and is 88 years old. His female passenger, also from St. Charles, is 81 years old.
The crash happened just before 1:00 p.m. Sunday in the 2800 block of Veteran's Memorial Parkway.
An early investigation indicates a van driven by the victims was pulling onto the parkway when it was struck by a pickup truck.Authorities sayit doesn't appear as if the driver actually stopped at the stop sign before turning onto the parkway.
The collision sent the van down the road to an embankment andinto the front of the urgent care.
"It doesn't appear that he actually hit the brakes, it does appear that his foot was stuck on the accelerator," says CaptainTimCooper with the St. Charles Fire Department.
Nancy Giaimo is a nurse practitioner from the next door urgent care and shestayed with the elderly couple until emergency crews arrived.
"When I got to the car the female was conscious the male was not," says Giaimo.
