Madison County, Ill (KSDK) -- A Troy, Illinois man is accused of causing the death of a former Triad High School cheerleader by providing her heroin.

Senior Shannon Gaddis died in January of 2011 from a heroin overdose.

Prosecutors argued Wednesday morning that Taylor Kennedy, 20, made the deal for the drugs that killed the 17-year-old victim.

The defense argued Gaddis was an addict and took the heroin from Kennedy while he was passed out from drug use, so he could not have given her the drug.

Kennedy pleaded not guilty to drug-induced homicide,

This is the first drug-induced homicide case to go to trial in Madison County.
