St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - A corrections officer was hit while walking across 14th Street at Market in downtown, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said.
The victim is identified as a 29-year-old woman, who was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Her condition has since improved from 'critical' to 'serious,' according to authorities. She suffered broken bones and internal injuries
She was on her to start work as the third shift at the Justice Center.
The woman was struck Sunday evening around 10:30 p.m. by a van traveling southbound on 14th Street.
The driver of the van is cooperating with the investigation, police said. Police have not determined who caused the accident.
