St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - Saint Louis University men's basketball coach Rick Majerus will not be returning to the program due to an ongoing heart ailment.

Rick Majerus is being treated in California. Jon Huntsman Sr., father of the former GOP presidential candidate, is handling Majerus' affairs.

Assistant Jim Crews became interim coach after Majerus left. He will remain the coach for the foreseeable future.

Rick Majerus guided the Billikens to a 26-8 record during the 2011-12 season, the second most wins in school history. The season culminated with the school's first NCAA Tournament berth since 1998. SLU won its first-round match, its first tournament victory since 1994.

Majerus had to take time off on three separate occasions for health reasons in the past, but never at the start of the season.

In the summer of 2011, Majerus missed time to have a stent put in his heart.
