ROME (CNN) - St. Louis native Cardinal Timothy Dolan believes Pope Francis has a great track record to lead the Catholic church.

Dolan was among the 115 Cardinals who helped elect Jorge Mario Bergoglio to the position.

"He'll do it well," said Cardinal Dolan. "All we can do is look at his track record, okay? An amazingly simple and sincere transparent man...a man who deeply loves the poor...a man who theologically well grounded in the timeless doctrine of the church, okay? And, a man who knows how to govern. We'll begin to see those kinds of things. I think there may be a touch of simplicity, sincerity, openness."
