JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KSDK) - Republic Services Inc. has been referred to Mo. Attorney General Chris Koster by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.

A spokesperson for the Missouri Department of Natural Resources says the referral is for violations of the state's environmental laws at and around Bridgeton Sanitary Landfill.

They're asking Koster to take legal action to resolve violations.

On Wednesday the DNR released results of air quality tests. They say the odor surrounding the landfill shows there is no hazard to the community, but if it persists it could become a health problem in the future.

Bridgeton Landfill, LLC released the following statement to NewsChannel 5:
"Bridgeton Landfill, LLC has been cooperating with MDNR and local government officials at all levels as we work to resolve the odor issues at the landfill. We're now looking forward to also working with Attorney General Koster and his team."
